Nervous patients

If the dentist is the appointment you keep putting off

Around a quarter of people feel nervous at the thought of a dental visit, and for some it goes further than that. Tell us before you come and we will work around it.

  • Early appointments, so you are not waiting on it all day
  • Bring a friend or family member, and your own headphones if you would rather
  • Regular breaks, and an agreed stop signal that we will always respect
  • Intravenous sedation from an on-site anaesthetist, monitored throughout by a trained anaesthetic doctor working alongside your dentist

Sedation takes a few hours to wear off, so you will need someone to take you home and stay with you afterwards.

Implants and dentures

Replacing teeth, and rebuilding teeth that have worn down

For implants we work alongside a local specialist who places them. The fitting, finishing and long-term maintenance are done here, by the team who already know your mouth.

Rebuilding worn dentition is one of Aine Marshall's particular interests, and where teeth cannot be saved we make dentures in acrylic, a deluxe finish or cobalt chromium.

  • Full acrylic dentures from £900.00
  • Cobalt chromium dentures from £1,400.00
  • Deluxe dentures from £1,550.00

How to read this list

The fee guide is a guide. It is not comprehensive and it is subject to change, and the fee for your own treatment is confirmed in writing before any work starts.

Paying for treatment

Cash, debit and credit cards, and BACS by request. A deposit is taken at booking. Finance can be arranged for treatment over £600 and needs to be set up at least two weeks beforehand.

Appointments

Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice are chargeable, and a missed hygienist appointment is charged at £30. If you arrive more than five minutes late we may need to rebook you.

Practice membership

Spread the cost of looking after your teeth

Our own membership plan, prescribed individually rather than sold in tiers, paid by monthly Direct Debit.

A family of four together, all smiling

Membership covers your regular examinations and hygiene visits and takes 10% off many prescribed treatments, so routine care is budgeted rather than paid for in lumps. Plans run annually, six-monthly or quarterly depending on what your teeth need.

The 10% saving excludes cosmetic treatments, implants and orthodontics. An initial administration fee of £9.50 is collected with your first payment. Ask any member of the team for the plan that fits you and its monthly price.

What members get

  • Regular examination appointments, including x-rays where they are needed
  • Regular hygiene visits, so gum health is watched rather than discovered
  • 10% off many prescribed treatments
  • Free emergency appointments as a member
  • Worldwide Assistance Scheme: dental trauma cover, emergency help abroad, and redundancy protection for up to 12 months of payments

Patient reviews

The two below are published with the patient's name, from our own records. The rest are on our Google listing, unedited.

“I have been visiting The Art of Dentistry since moving to the area in 2000. I have had a number of dentists in that period but have found them always to be courteous, professional and friendly. Reception staff are also most helpful and welcoming.”
Pete BodilyColchester
“I was recommended to have further root canal treatment and I was petrified at the very thought. However, Sean spent half an hour patiently explaining the various options in a calm and reassuring manner. I felt no pain whatsoever and was totally relaxed throughout.”
